Cancellation of the 2020 Festival due to Covid-19: March 24, 2020
Dear Alberta High School Drama Festival Association community:
We have had to make the decision to cancel this year's AHSDFA Provincial Showcase. Likewise, all Zone Festivals have also been cancelled. We know this is a heartbreaking time for our students and colleagues, but we must all do our share to help end this pandemic.
In the meantime, we are planning ahead for next year's festival when we will celebrate our 50th anniversary: May 6-8, 2021 at Red Deer College. If you would like to be part of the planning committee, please let us know. We are looking forward to creating a spectacular celebration festival next year.
Take good care,
Nashira Dernesch
AHSDFA President
In honour of our 50th Anniversary - we encourage all schools to consider supporting Canadian Theatre by doing Canadian One Act Plays or student written material. But this is not a requirement - just a request for consideration. See a list of recommended titles in the page tabs at the top of this site.
Thursday, May 6 to Saturday, May 8, 2021
The AGM Meeting is on Friday, May 7th at 9:30am in the foyer of the theatre. All teachers and school/zone representatives are welcome to attend.
Nashira Dernesch = President
Please contact Arlene Orchard or Nashira Dernesch for the address of the Fall AGM or if you have any agenda items for the meeting.
The Provincial Festival is a One Act Play Festival that celebrates the great theatre that is happening from around province, in our High Schools - Public, Catholic, Private, and Charter.
In April, schools from around the province participate in their respective ZONE festivals (their local areas), then the representative play(s) bring their production to Red Deer College to showcase their work on the Provincial Festival stage.
The Provincial Festival is NOT a competition, it is a celebration of outstanding work from all over Alberta; however, schools are recognized and awarded for their outstanding efforts.
Theatre Entrance and Parking:
Monday - Friday: after 5:00 p.m. and Sat/Sun (all day)
= parking complimentary all lots except - Bethany / College side and Lot K
How to participate in your local Zones Festival:
